The Chesapeake Film Festival begins today with a 10-day celebration
The Chesapeake Film Festival, currently in its 15th yearth Year, celebrated with a hybrid 10-day celebration of films and filmmakers from around the world. This year’s celebrations will focus on the environment and films by and about women. The LIVE Festival begins today in Easton, MD at the Avalon Theater and the Ebenezer Theater and continues through October 2nd. The free virtual portion of the festival follows with 48 more jury-selected films available to watch at home from October 3rd to 9th. More information about the festival can be found at here.
Take the kids on a creative play date
To celebrate her first year in business for local toy brand Follies, designer Chloe Varelidi is hosting a creative playmeet with the Washington Award Artist at Halcyon Art Labs on Saturday from 4-6pm. Children are invited to create and build play structures. Meet artists like Yayoi Kusama and Frida Kahlo while developing their STEM skills. Don’t miss DC Art Now 2022
Visit DC Art Now 2022 at 200 I St. SE until October 29th. The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities’ annual exhibition of select work by finalists for the Art Bank Program grant. The exhibition features many emerging artists working at the DMV today including Cathy Ambramson, Sondra Arkin, Jessica Van Brakle, Curtis Woody, Andy Yoder and more. Wiener dogs and beer and polka, oh my god!
The Oktoberfest returns this weekend with the 10th Annual Vienna 500 Polka on the Pier (Friday 7-9pm), Dachshund Dash (Saturday 2-5pm) and Stone Lifting Competition and German Fare (Sunday 2-5pm). All weekend, restaurants in the neighborhood serve German cuisine and are decorated in a Bavarian style. If there’s one event you must see, it’s the Wiener 500 Dachshund Dash. The Fall Festival begins on East Market Lane in Georgetown Park
A curated shopping destination called Fall Fest begins this weekend on East Market Lane in Georgetown Park. Small business vendors like Earth Essentials by Erica, A Contemporary Market: Bakery and Wellness Shop, and Tequeno World will sell fall items like homeware, fashion, jewelry, and more. There will also be a pumpkin installation at the entrance to the market, perfect for those Instagram-worthy fall family photos. The Autumn Festival takes place every weekend from September 30th to October 30th, Fridays from 5pm to 9pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 5pm
Visit the National Children’s Museum to immerse yourself in the world of Pixar’s Inside Out
The National Children’s Museum is hosting an exhibit titled Emotions at Play with Pixar’s Inside Out that will run throughout the fall and winter. The event transports families into the world of the 2015 Pixar film, Inside Out, with digital experiences featuring characters from the film who represent our five core emotions: joy, fear, anger, disgust and sadness.
