Raymond Central takes down Pioneers in four sets | Community

FORT CALHOUN- After three straight losses, the Raymond Central volleyball team returned to victory column when they faced For Calhoun on September 16. The Mustangs defeated the Pioneers in four sets.

The game against the Pioneers started with the home side giving their crowd an early win by 25-22. Despite losing the opening set, the Mustangs kept their composure and rallied to win the final three sets 25-23, 25-19, then 25-19.

Quincy Cotter led Raymond Central with 23 kills in the match. Taylor Oldfield got 22 digs and six aces, and Brooklyn Maxson was right behind her with 21 digs.

Alliana Miller and Cotter recorded four blocks each. In the end, Adelyn Heiss and Savannah Masek came up with 19 templates.

Earlier in the week, the Mustangs competed in the Yutan Triangular on September 13th. They lost in three sets to East Butler and then in straight sets to Class C-1 No. 9 Yutan.

In their first game of the day against East Butler, Raymond Central came out and grabbed the momentum with a 25-15 win in the opener. They were beaten 25-14 in the second and then fell heartbreakingly 25-23 in the third and deciding set.

Cotter and Oldfield led the Mustangs by 14 in that competition. Both Heiss and Masek had 14 set assists and Miller finished with four blocks.

Raymond Central reacted to the defeat by playing a good game against a top-class Yutan side. Despite a good performance, the Mustangs still ended on the losing side in both sets 25-21 and 25-20.

Cotter had a team with six kills and Masek dug up six balls. Heiss ended the match with 10 assists.

On September 17, Raymond Central traveled to the Fillmore Central Tournament. The Mustangs finished with a 1-2 record and finished fourth out of six teams.

In their first round, Raymond Central lost to Class D-1 No. 3 Hastings St Cecilia 25-16 and 25-22. This was followed by a straight set loss to Milford with identical scores of 25-16.

The Mustangs finished the tournament in column when they faced hosts Fillmore Central. They defeated the Panthers 25-16 and then 25-20.

Cotter had a stellar tournament with 34 kills and 33 digs to lead the team in both categories. In the end, 32 sentence templates from Heiss and Masek came to 14 sentence templates.

Raymond Central played Milford on September 20th. They will be in Ashland at 11am on September 24 to take on conference opponents Ashland-Greenwood.
