Nordic Digital Initiatives Address Economy, Environment

STOCKHOLM–(BUSINESS DESCRIPTION)–Businesses in the Nordics have responded to rapid changes in recent years by launching digital transformations and leading environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives, according to a new research report published today by Information Services Group (ISG) (Nasdaq: III), the world’s leading technology research company and a consulting firm.

The 2022 ISG Provider Lens™ Report on Digital Business and ESG Services for the Nordics finds that digital technology and third-party services have empowered organizations in the region as they adapt to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent economic disruptions, including the challenges created by the war in Ukraine.

“Many Nordic businesses have successfully changed the way they work to generate growth under difficult conditions,” said Anna Medkouri, partner, ISG EMEA. “Strategy and consulting services played a big role in making this happen.”

The sector has pioneered digital services and projects related to ESG goals, and this activity is accelerating in both environmental and other use cases, ISG says. Many businesses implement systems to accurately track and report Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 emissions. ESG efforts in the Nordics also extend to other aspects of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the report says. Another project used data analytics to analyze keywords used in job postings in an effort to attract more female candidates.

Supply chains in the Nordics have been constrained by factors including resource shortages, rising costs, war-related disruptions and poor demand, ISG said. The development of data supply chains, which use analytics and AI to improve the assessment of supply and demand management, is a growing trend in the region, and suppliers are building specific contributions to this demand. Modern service projects are also increasingly addressing carbon emissions and material demand.

“Customers in the Nordics want to see companies make a positive difference with their supply chains,” said Jan Erik Aase, partner and global leader, ISG Provider Lens Research. “Service providers allow customers to track and report on the impact of their efforts.”

As in other regions, businesses in the Nordics are embracing digital technologies to improve customer experience (CX) in the post-pandemic economy, the report says. Creating different experiences for specific customer segments, such as Millennials and Gen Z, is a priority for the Nordics. Providing green products to environmentally conscious consumers is another emerging need.

The report also examines other trends in business services that affect companies in the Nordics, including a lack of skills and initial efforts by providers to build CX use cases in augmented reality and virtual reality and the metaverse.

The 2022 ISG Supplier Lens™ Report for Digital Business and ESG Services for the Nordics assesses the capabilities of 36 providers in four quadrants: Business Intelligence Services, Customer Experience Services, Information Transformation Services, and Sustainability and ESG Services.

The report lists Accenture, HCTech, IBM and Wipro as Leaders in all four quadrants. It names Atos, Capgemini, TCS and Tietoevry as Leaders in three quadrants each. BCG, Cognizant, Deloitte Digital, EY, Infosys, LTI, McKinsey, PwC and Tech Mahindra are named Leaders in one quadrant each.

In addition, GEP and Mindtree are named Rising Stars – four companies with a “promising portfolio” and “high potential for the future” according to the ISG definition – in one quadrant each.
