Mutoh Europe launches hazard-free sign & display ink


Mutoh Europe nv, an EMEA subsidiary of the Japan-based manufacturer of large format digital printers, has announced the EMEA release of a CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow and key) ink set for signs and displays called the MS51 series. The new inks do not require health and safety pictograms and are also gBL (gamma butyrolactone) free.

Available in liter packs, the MS51 inks have been specially developed for Mutoh’s new AccuFine piezo drop-on-demand printhead technology, which is integrated into the latest XpertJet Pro printer range. According to a press release from Mutoh Europe, the inks are ideal for long-term outdoor and indoor signage applications.

“We are proud to launch this innovative ink for sign and commercial printing professionals. The new MS51 ink series is the icing on the cake for our high-quality XpertJet SR Pro series sign and display printers, which we launched in January 2022,” he said Mitsuo Takatsu, Managing Director of Mutoh Europe. “The inks will be available initially for Mutoh’s XpertJet 1641SR Pro device, with additional models to follow later this year.”

“Moreover, the MS51 inks are future-proof. Taking into account the current CLP regulation, they do not require any hazard or hazard pictograms and do not contain any gBL,” adds Heintjens. “In addition, our MS51 ink formulation includes a new blend of evaporating liquids that will significantly improve the drying behavior of the output.”

The new Mutoh MS51 series CMYK inks will be marketed exclusively by Mutoh Europe in the EMEA region through its network of certified distributors. The inks will initially be available for Mutoh’s XpertJet 1641SR Pro device, with additional models to follow later this year.

The Mutoh MS51 inks have the following key specifications. The inks will be available in four colours: C, M, Y, K. The 1 liter ink packs will come in disposable foil which will help reduce waste. Since the ink is non-hazardous, the products will not feature any hazard or hazard symbols. You will have a gBL1-free ink formulation. The collection will include quick-drying inks – for same-day lamination door openers, the publication added.

The inks have low odor as well as vibrant, high density prints, excellent dot gain and media gloss retention. With a superior color gamut, the inks are suitable for long-term outdoor and indoor promotional graphics. The inks also retain their UV resistance for up to 3 years outdoors without lamination and have high abrasion and chemical resistance ratings.
