A 3D model of the anticipated Meta Quest 3 prototype shows a possible VR headset design.

A successor to Meta Quest 2 will be released later this year. This has been confirmed on Meta’s side. Last fall, well-informed hardware analyst Brad Lynch posted plans for a prototype VR headset that purportedly shows the Meta Quest 3 design.

A few months ago, a Youtuber posted drawings of the Meta Quest Pro, which later turned out to be accurate. There’s a good chance there’s something to that leak. Still, Lynch points out that small details can still change.

A leaked Stinson prototype as a 3D model

3D artist Alvin Suen created a 3D model based on CAD plans of the supposed Quest 3 prototype. If you’re reading this article on a smartphone, you can view 3D rendering from all sides by touch.

With Sketchfab, it is also possible to see the headset in your physical environment through augmented reality. Meta Quest 2 also allows you to view the VR headset in VR in the Meta Quest browser or with the Figmin XR app.

There are three that immediately catch your eye elongated protrusions on the front of the VR headset. According to the plans, there are a pair of black and white and RBG cameras (left and right) as well as a depth sensor (center). These enable spatial tracking, color passing and improved hand tracking. The sophisticated architecture of the sensor suggests that the Meta’s hardware is focused on mixed reality.

It is also quite noticeable slimmer case profile compared to Meta Quest 2 (review). There’s a good chance the Meta uses pancake lenses like the Meta Quest Pro (review), which allows for a slimmer form factor.

The white Touch Pro controllers look good

Suen added Meta’s new Touch Pro controllers to the 3D model of the headset, but in white to match the Meta Quest 3. The new VR controllers are included with the Meta Quest Pro, but are also compatible with the Meta Quest 2 and have been available for purchase separately since December. The Touch Pro drivers monitor themselves and therefore do not need to distracting tracking rings from common touch controls.

It’s extremely unlikely that the Meta Quest 3 comes with Touch Pro controllers, given the hefty $300 price tag. Meta Quest 3 is expected to cost between $300 and $500, according to Mark Zuckerberg. However, they would go well with the new VR headset in white, as the 3D model shows. We assume they will be compatible with Meta Quest 3 as well.
