There are many business owners in Adams County that I do not agree with politically, and I know there are many that do not agree with my political views, but I would never publicly or personally attack any of these local businesses. Not advocating for a boycott. In today’s world, it is very important to support local businesses and buy local.
There are a lot of local idiots who are pushing to boycott area businesses because they were tempted to advertise in the program booklet for the 2021 Adams County Republican Committee Eisenhower Dinner.
These people want to hurt a local business for buying a $100 ad in a booklet that may have had 500 copies printed a year ago, its a disgrace to that business. Local businesses specifically mentioned for a boycott by The Last Moron include: Tommy’s Pizza, Hullabaugh’s Garden, Dunlap’s Restaurant, Four Score Brewery and Dobbin’s House.
I think the woman who is asking locals to boycott this long standing and successful business in our community has no idea about the amount of food and service that each of these businesses give back to Adams County.
Each of these businesses are big supporters of many non-profits in the county, helping all school districts in the county with everything from food to monetary donations.
I know the owners of all of these businesses and you could not find better, community-minded, dedicated, hard-working employers in our area. I guess the brainchild behind the boycott push didn’t think about how boycotting a local business would affect their neighbors who work at that business, or just didn’t care.
I wish we could all be as financially independent as Beth Farnham and not worry about our financial futures and live close-minded and self-righteous lives. I’m sure she’s out shopping and eating at chain restaurants in Hanover today.
All those who know my political views and believe me, many people boycott the paper because of my views but I am glad that I am not as petty as them or Beth Farnham.
Like Beth, I can honestly say that in none of the under-the-dark, secret meetings of the Adams County Republicans that I attend, we can change the future of the world based on local politics. Business boycott is the idea. It was discussed. I think Adams County Republicans care too much about our community and neighbors to punish them for their political views.
Roger Lund and I are as far apart politically as two people but I admire his business acumen, his hard work and I sell him on all his business. Jack Schindle and I have many political and personal differences but that doesn’t stop my wife and daughter from going to coffee shops on the weekends for coffee or hot chocolate, my wife and daughter drinking and eating at Jack’s places of business. likes
Beth, boycotting a business because that business is exercising its first amendment right to advertise its products and services strikes me as bordering on un-American and actually crosses the line into pure stupidity. . I remember an Adams County political candidate talking about boycotting businesses that advertise in local Republican publications, how did that work out for the candidate in November?
By the way, I wrote this column over lunch at Dunlap’s, now I’m on my way to Hallabaugh for fresh fruit, plan to get pizza at Tommy’s tonight, and take my family to Dobbin House this weekend. Take out for dinner.
