“Your diet plays a crucial role in keeping your heart healthy, aside from exercise. When talking about diet, certain foods are considered good for your heart health. Normally, highly processed foods that are loaded with unhealthy fats, sodium and sugar must be avoided,” says Avni Kaul, a nutritionist.

While certain foods are considered good for heart health, potatoes are one of them. However, this conclusion was reached after a study was conducted regarding potatoes for heart health.

Reasons potatoes are good for heart patients include:

1. Lowers blood pressure

“Potatoes are high in potassium, which helps lower blood pressure,” says Kaul. Potassium is one of the most important minerals needed for the heart to function. Potassium helps the heart pump blood around the body and basically keeps the heart beating. So, potatoes help keep blood pressure under control and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
