New Test and Measurement Solutions Accelerate the Development, Implementation, and Deployment of New 80 Gbps USB-Enabled Devices

Keysight Technologies, Inc. The USB4® version 2.0 specification enables a plug-and-play interface for inter-digital communication, providing significant advantages in terms of bandwidth and data delivery. Keysight’s industry collaborations, combined with extensive research and development efforts, have enabled the company to provide solutions specifically for design characterization and validation for 80 Gbps USB. As a result, an ecosystem built around reversible and backward compatible USB Type-C® connectors, comprised of silicon vendors and system integrators, can effectively address a growing market for digital devices with applications such as high-resolution displays and high-fidelity virtual reality devices.
Specific to USB4 version 2.0, Keysight introduces the D9050USBC Transmitter Test Application, which automates testing of required measurements for transmitter compliance and return loss testing for 80 Gbps USB. Additionally, the N5991U42A Receiver Test application automates complex calibration and receiver testing of 80 Gbps USB products. The Keysight 7019A USB Type-C® Active Link Device provides access to all USB Type-C signals in an 80 Gbps USB live link.

In conjunction with the D9010USBP USB Protocol Trigger and Decode, customers can configure protocol-level lookups and triggers to debug and decode 80Gbps USB sideband and high-speed traffic. Keysight’s network analyzer application software, such as S96011B Enhanced Time Domain Analysis with TDR and S94USBCB USB Type-C Interconnect Compliance Testing Application, simplifies and automates the complex process of testing and test characterization compliance of USB Type-C interconnects to support the USB4/USB Type-C test ecosystem.
To enable early design-phase simulations as well as in-depth post-layout analysis at the system level, Keysight’s PathWave advanced design system, PathWave ADS, now offers an IBIS-AMI USB4 version 2.0 modeler that facilitates development of such models for 80 Gbit/s USB devices. IBIS-AMI models generated using the W3081E are then used in Channel Simulation to predict and simulate BER, eye measurements, and other design parameters.
