And today, I’m going to teach you how to make the cookies of your dreams. These are my super soft, ooey-gooey, healthy chocolate chip cookies.
This recipe is so super easy that you don’t even need a mixer. I used two secretly healthy swaps that you don’t wanna miss, and they are pillowy thick and will stay soft for days. I packed in extra chocolate just for you. Now I don’t know about you, but I need a cookie, so let’s get started. (upbeat folk rock music) Our healthy chocolate chip cookies start with the wet ingredients.
Grab a mixing bowl, then add melted, cooled coconut oil. This healthy cookie recipe contains no butter. Make sure you measure your coconut oil when it is in its liquid state.
This is the only kind of oil that I recommend for this recipe. We are supplementing it with applesauce.
Applesauce is one of the best healthy baking swaps. If you won’t use a whole jar, you don’t eat it regularly, the individual cups are perfect. Applesauce keeps the cookies moist. And since it is fat-free, it makes these low-calorie chocolate chip cookies. Just scoop it right on in.
And now, we’re ready for our sugar. I use brown sugar and granulated sugar. It’s just the right amount to sweeten the cookies and make sure they taste like a true treat without going over the top. If you’re looking for low-sugar chocolate cookies, this recipe is a great option.
And now, pure vanilla extract, a full tablespoon.
That gives these cookies a more intense flavor. Plus, vanilla is just delicious in cookie recipes. If you go a little bit over here, don’t even worry about it. Vanilla extract is scrumptious. Whisk it all together until the sugar is well-blended with the applesauce and the coconut oil.
I love how easy this recipe is. You don’t even need a mixer. Add your egg. Be sure that your egg is at room temperature to give the cookies the best possible texture. Grab a new bowl.
It is time for the dry ingredients. Starting with white whole wheat flour, which is lighter and milder in taste than regular wheat flour but is still whole grain and has those healthy benefits. If you’re looking for a healthy chocolate chip cookie with almond flour, say you need it to be gluten-free, you can check out my healthy chocolate chip cookies with almond flour, which I will link to in the notes below. Adding some cinnamon. It gives the cookies a little somethin’ somethin’ that makes them truly special.
And that is it. Now we add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir gently just until the flour disappears. I truly cannot believe how easy this healthy chocolate chip cookie recipe is to make. And you’ll remember it long after they have left your oven.
Now the best part, chocolate!
I like to use dark chocolate chips, mm, quality test, because dark chocolate is my absolute favorite. But if you prefer milk chocolate or even peanut butter baking chips, that is a great recipe option, too. Again, we’re stirring just until the chocolate chips are blended, and look at that. Shh, don’t tell. Now we need to chill our dough.
This is mandatory to make sure your cookies don’t spread during baking. When you’re ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Here we are. It’s been an hour and now I am ready to scoop. I love to use a cookie scoop like this one.
It makes sure all the cookies are the same size.
This recipe yields 18 perfect, healthy chocolate chip cookies. I’m arranging them on a parchment-lined baking sheet, and then pro-tip, press even more chocolate chips in the top. It tastes even better and it looks so pretty, too. Pop these into the oven.
Do not overbake. When they come out, they are going to look a little bit underdone, which is exactly what we are going for.
Cool, these look so pillowy soft and ooey-gooey. I love how thick they are. Now, as tough it is to wait, you wanna let these rest on the baking sheet for two minutes just so that they firm up a little bit ’cause we don’t want them to break when we’re transferring them.
I’m just gonna very gently and carefully move them over to my cooling rack. I don’t care how old you are, nothing about chocolate cookies and milk ever gets old. Now I am looking for the one that has the max amount of chocolate chips on top. Ooh, it almost looks a little bit like cookie dough inside because they are so soft.
Here we go.
Mm. Oh, my gosh. Mm. Mm. I cannot believe that this is a healthy cookie.
No one would think for a second that these are completely whole grain, that they’re made with coconut oil and applesauce instead of butter. This just tastes so thick and rich just like your favorite bakery chocolate chip cookie. We didn’t need a mixer or anything fancy to make them.
All that you needed was a rubber spatula. I bet you have all these ingredients in your house.
And because these cookies are good for you, you can feel fantastic eating them as often as the craving strikes. These will make a cookie monster out of anyone.
