Maintaining health requires regular detoxification of the body, and the liver is crucial to this process, through which most liver conditions can be prevented. Doctors claim that working from home and inactivity during the curfew are causing an increase in liver-related ailments, and that about one person in every family today suffers from fatty liver disease.

What is fatty liver?

Tips for the treatment of fatty liver:

In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Sushrut Pownikar, Head and Deputy Director of Quality Assurance at Oncquest Laboratories, shared: “Recommended lifestyle changes to help reduce fatty liver; Eating plain and simple, intermittent fasting is known to help in some cases. Replace saturated/trans fats with unsaturated fats. Eat foods with a low glycemic index. Avoid sugar-based fruit drinks. Coffee has been advocated as a good supplement, with 2-3 cups of low-fat milk and unsweetened helping to reduce fatty liver. Low doses of alcohol have been shown to be beneficial, but higher doses increase the risk. Avoid processed foods. Exercise, for example brisk walking, running, or other aerobic activities. Sleep 6-8 hours. Liver function tests/USG are indicated if liver inflammation is suspected. You should always consult your doctor before starting any of the changes mentioned above.”

For this reason, green leafy vegetables and organic fruits should both be a part of the diet and it is recommended to limit sugar intake if you have insulin resistance. Foods high in fat and fatty foods are challenging for the liver to metabolize. Some of the foods that help reduce fatty liver diseases include cinnamon, apple cider vinegar, turmeric and Indian gooseberry, commonly known as amla. The doctor recommends drinking 10 to 12 glasses of water every day to keep the body hydrated and promote blood circulation.

According to her, various supplements can help with problems with fatty liver:

1. Milk thistle is often promoted for its liver-protecting properties and is commonly used as a complementary therapy by people with liver damage.

2. Dandelion extract is widely used to treat various liver diseases due to its high concentration of phytonutrients that have been shown to protect the liver.

Regular exercise also reduces the synthesis of fatty acids, increases the oxidation of fatty acids and protects mitochondria and hepatocytes from damage.
