Dollar Tree names new COO

Michael Creedon has joined Dollar Tree as chief operating officer, marking the chain’s third senior hire following a C-suite reorganization earlier this summer.

Michael Creedon - Dollar Tree.jpgThe deep discounter said Monday that Creedon (picture left) joins the company from Advance Auto Parts, where he served as executive vice president of US operations. He spent nearly nine years at Advance Auto, beginning in December 2013 as President of the retailer’s Autoparts International arm and in February 2017 with the title of President of Advance Auto Parts North Division. He was promoted to President of US Operations in May 2020 before being named Executive VP of US offices in March 2021.

“I am very pleased to announce that Mike Creedon has joined the Dollar Tree team as the new Chief Operating Officer. Mike’s impressive retail career is rooted in a deep knowledge and understanding of his customers,” said Mike Witynski, Dollar Tree’s President and CEO, in a statement. “Mike will be instrumental in driving the execution of our strategy and will be a key leader supporting our cultural shift across the Dollar Tree, Family Dollar and Dollar Tree Canada businesses.”

Prior to joining Advance, Creedon was vice president and general manager of sales and operations in North America for Sensormatic LLC, the retail security division of Tyco International (USA), from 2010 to 2013. He also previously held several senior management positions at Tyco International and its ADT security unit.

“I look forward to joining the Dollar Tree organization at this crucial stage in their transformation. We will be committed to improving the shopping experience for our shoppers as Dollar Tree and Family Dollar are well positioned to be a critical solution for millions of households struggling with historic inflation,” said Creedon. “My team will focus on improving operational processes and efficiencies to better support our store associates and field workers and the customers they serve. We will focus on recruiting, training and retaining key retail associates and helping them build their careers at Dollar Tree.”

Creedon’s appointment comes approximately three months after Chesapeake, Virginia-based Dollar Tree announced a reshuffle in its senior management ranks, including the departure of COO Thomas O’Boyle, Chief Information Officer Andy Paisley, Chief Strategy Officer David Jacobs and Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary William Old.

The company also announced at the time that Chief Financial Officer Kevin Wampler would step down from his role if a successor was named. Almost a month later, Dollar Tree announced it had hired Bobby Aflatooni, executive vice president and CIO at The Howard Hughes Corp., as its new CIO.

Jeffrey Davis-Dollar Tree.jpgThen, in late August, the company announced Jeffrey Davis (picture left), CFO of Qurate Retail Group (whose brands include QVC, HSN and Zulily), succeeding Wampler, who has agreed to stay on as an advisor until April 2023 to help with the transition. Davis’ leadership background includes serving as treasurer of Walmart Stores, senior vice president of finance and strategy and CFO of Walmart US, CFO of JC Penney Co. and CFO of Darden Restaurants.

In total, Dollar Tree operates 16,231 stores in 48 states and five Canadian provinces under the Dollar Tree, Family Dollar and Dollar Tree Canada brands.
