Black Enterprise to Host Virtual C-Suite & Boardroom Equity Summit on Sept. 22

The summit coincides with the release of the 2022 annual Boardroom Power Report

The free event will examine whether the country’s largest public companies are meeting the mandate to expand black representation on corporate boards and in corporate boardrooms.



Just in time for the virtual experience, BLACK ENTERPRISE will release the “2022 Boardroom Power Report”, which has tracked the S&P 500 companies with and without black corporate boards since 2013. BLACK ENTERPRISE has been a leader in providing reporting, research and advocacy bulletin board representation for the past decade. Similar to previous years, the 2022 report will feature the BE Register of corporate boards and will provide the most robust compilation of data and analysis on the status of black board representation at the largest publicly traded companies.

The report shows that 85% of S&P 500 companies now have at least one black corporate director, up from 60% in 2016 — the first year BLACK ENTERPRISE reported on board diversity across the index. Despite these advances, only 12 African Americans hold positions of CEO and senior director.

Change in black leadership continues to be slow, lukewarm and inconsistent. Black executives hold only 3.2% of senior leadership positions in large companies, and less than 1% hold CEO positions.
