Just in time for the virtual experience, BLACK ENTERPRISE will release the “2022 Boardroom Power Report”, which has tracked the S&P 500 companies with and without black corporate boards since 2013. BLACK ENTERPRISE has been a leader in providing reporting, research and advocacy bulletin board representation for the past decade. Similar to previous years, the 2022 report will feature the BE Register of corporate boards and will provide the most robust compilation of data and analysis on the status of black board representation at the largest publicly traded companies.

“BLACK ENTERPRISE has long been committed to the rise of black professionals who have fought and earned their rightful place in the nation’s boardrooms and boardrooms,” said Earl “Butch” Graves Jr., CEO of BLACK COMPANY. “It is very fitting that we hold this summit as we release our 2022 Boardroom Power Report to further uncover systemic differences and expand data that requires continued progress in boardroom diversification.”

The report shows that 85% of S&P 500 companies now have at least one black corporate director, up from 60% in 2016 — the first year BLACK ENTERPRISE reported on board diversity across the index. Despite these advances, only 12 African Americans hold positions of CEO and senior director.

Change in black leadership continues to be slow, lukewarm and inconsistent. Black executives hold only 3.2% of senior leadership positions in large companies, and less than 1% hold CEO positions.

“The rise of black leaders is critical to ensuring justice is achieved across all businesses and functions,” Graves said. “This summit is the best experience for authentic conversations, backed by real data and the potential to really make a difference.”

The C-Suite & Boardroom Equity Summit will feature a lineup of the most successful and influential Black leaders and board members to host industry-changing conversations and sessions sponsored by Hasbro, Hyatt, Manulife John HancockMerck and Nationwide. Employees, managers, consumers and shareholders are all invited to join and learn how to effectively and successfully implement DEI initiatives and rise to the top with a focus on:

  • The role of Black Board members in promoting DEI in corporate environments

  • The impact of diversified leadership on shareholder value and institutional innovation

  • The process of CEO selection and succession planning

  • The strategies for breaking through barriers blocking the advancement of black professionals
