Arla Foods Ingredients launches electrolyte and whey protein beverage for sports recovery

20 Oct 2022 — Arla Foods Ingredients, based in Denmark, introduces a functional drink that supports rehydration and regeneration. The RTD sports nutrition solution contains Lacprodan SP-9213, a whey protein isolate that the company says is able to maintain its functionality when combined with electrolytes.

The new drink targets what the company describes as two of the most important goals in sports nutrition — replenishing lost fluids and accompanying electrolytes, and promoting muscle recovery.

“It’s a combination that many of our customers have asked us for, and we’re excited to help them meet two of the biggest needs in sports nutrition,” said Mathias Toft Vangsoe, Sales Development Manager, Health and Performance Nutrition at Arla Foods ingredients.

Achievement of nutritional goals
According to the company, studies have shown that just 2% dehydration during exercise can reduce performance by up to 10%. In addition, it notes that consumers are increasingly aware of the potential impact of hydration and electrolytes on physical performance and athletic performance.

The functional beverage range combines protein and electrolytes to support peak athletic performance.Additionally, the company states that science has conclusively shown that protein intake between workouts and workouts can promote maximum muscle recovery and increase performance.

The company further states that up to 43% of sports nutrition consumers are looking for additional protein in their training and fitness products, with 23% reiterating a preference for products containing electrolytes.

“The high-protein and high-hydration trends are two of the most important drivers in sports nutrition right now – as evidenced by the popularity of functional waters,” emphasizes Vangsoe. “This new concept shows how brands can help consumers rehydrate and recover at the same time with beverages that contain both electrolytes and high-quality protein.”
